Previously, in January, the Lam Dong Department of Construction issued tender documents; bids for investor selection closed on 25/2. At the time of closing, only one enterprise submitted documents. Authorities subsequently opened bids and conducted evaluations as regulated.
Phan Thiet airport is a dual-use project (military and civilian), planned since 2013 across an area of over 543 ha in Thien Nghiep commune (formerly Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan province), now Mui Ne ward, Lam Dong province.
Currently, the military component, implemented by the Ministry of National Defense, has been completed. The civilian component has faced delays due to adjustments in its scale and investment method.
In late 2025, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee approved the investment policy for the civilian aviation component, with a total capital of nearly 3,800 ty dong. The project is being implemented through a bidding process, with an operational term of 50 years; the investor must contribute a minimum of 15% of the capital, with the remainder mobilized from legal sources.
The civilian component is planned across an area of 74,6 ha, designed to operate code 4E aircraft, with a projected capacity of approximately 2 million passengers per year by 2030. The airport will serve domestic flights and some non-scheduled international flights.
The airfield will include six parking positions, two taxiways connecting to the apron, a 45 m high air traffic control tower, an operations building, along with signal lighting, navigation, and meteorological observation systems. The passenger terminal is expected to span 16,000-18,000 m2.
