Earlier, in early January, a 31-year-old man in Nao Su hamlet noticed a grey and white-feathered eagle frequently flying into his garden to hunt chickens. During one hunting attempt, the bird became entangled in a chicken coop net and was subsequently captured and kept at his home.
After receiving outreach and persuasion from the commune police, the resident voluntarily surrendered the rare bird in a healthy condition, eating normally.
The mountain hawk-eagle (scientific name: Nisaetus nipalensis), also known as the mountain hawk, is classified under Group IIB – endangered, rare forest animals. This species is distributed from northeastern India to Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. They typically inhabit and forage in forests, primarily preying on small animals.
