The Institute of Earth Sciences reported an earthquake at 5:46 PM today, with a depth of approximately 16 km. The epicenter was located in Cao Duong commune, Phu Tho province (formerly Cao Duong commune, Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province), about 40 km from Hanoi's city center.
Nguyen Thi Van, a resident of Phuc Lai commune, Hanoi, whose house is about 10 km from the epicenter, reported feeling the ground shake for about 5 seconds while sitting on the first floor. She said her furniture and corrugated iron roof rattled, creating a noticeable noise.
