Five days earlier, R’ Ong Ha Hoanh, from Da Ngit village, rode his motorbike into the forest bordering Lang Biang ward in Da Lat and Nam Ha commune in Lam Ha to gather mushrooms. When he didn't return, his family reported him missing to Lang Biang ward authorities. On 22/9, around 100 people from various agencies began a search and rescue operation.

By midday on 23/9, Mr. Hoanh was found in the forest in Nam Ha commune, about 20 km from where he left his motorbike. He was suffering from hunger and cold due to several days of rain, but the rescue team built a fire to warm him and brought him to safety.
A representative from the Lam Ha Forest Protection Management Board said the forest under their management spans over 46,000 ha. "Mr. Hoanh's experience in the forest contributed to his survival. He knew how to use forest fruits for food and collect rainwater to drink," the representative said.
Recently, there have been several incidents of locals and tourists getting lost in forests such as Cat Tien, Cuc Phuong, Lang Biang, and Co Tien mountain. The primary reasons include inexperience, unfamiliarity with the terrain, venturing out in darkness or rain, and lacking protective gear, food, or navigation equipment, leading to exhaustion, panic, and difficulties for rescuers.
