On 23/9, Ho Chi Minh City forest rangers tranquilized a female pig-tailed macaque in a residential area of Binh Tan ward after receiving reports of the animal escaping and attacking people.
According to forest rangers, the macaque, owned by a family, escaped its enclosure. On 21/9 and 22/9, it attacked two children, aged 4 and 7, and an 18-year-old inside their homes. The owner has since apologized to the victims and offered to cover the costs of vaccinations.
Pig-tailed macaques are listed as a vulnerable species. However, they can be aggressive towards humans and carry infectious diseases like hepatitis B and malaria. Forestry officials advise the public to report sightings to the authorities rather than attempting to capture the animals themselves.
