Tran Van Hai, 75 years old, who lives about 50 meters from the scene, reported hearing shouts while resting at home. Upon rushing outside, he witnessed a column of thick black smoke billowing dozens of meters high, as many residents quickly fled into the street.
About 10 minutes later, the Can Tho City Police Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue force dispatched four fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to extinguish the blaze. Ninh Kieu ward police also cordoned off the area and directed traffic.

The fire spread rapidly because the house contained many motorcycle parts and lubricants. After more than 30 minutes, the fire was brought under control and extinguished.
The incident caused no casualties but destroyed many assets and goods, leaving the house severely damaged.
According to authorities, the initial cause is suspected to be sparks from a welder at the adjacent karaoke parlor igniting the storage area of the neighboring house.
