Around 12:30 PM on 30/8, Fire and Rescue Team No. 6, under the Quang Tri Provincial Police Department of Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue, received an urgent report about 5 people trapped near a spillway in Hieu Giang commune.
The five individuals, working in a melaleuca forest, had been stranded for nearly two days due to rising floodwaters, without food or water. The spillway was approximately 100 meters wide with a strong current, making swimming across extremely dangerous.
Rescue forces dispatched a fire truck, a canoe, and 17 officers and soldiers to the scene. By 4:00 PM, after nearly four hours, all five people were brought safely to shore.

From 29/8 to 30/8, due to the remnants of Typhoon Nongfa, Quang Tri province experienced rainfall ranging from 70 to 200 mm. Several areas saw exceptionally heavy downpours, such as Huong Lap with 258 mm, Huong Viet with 208 mm, Hai Thai with 213 mm, and Cam Chinh with 212 mm. The heavy rainfall caused river levels to rise, with the Hieu River at Dau Mau exceeding alarm level 3, and several other rivers reaching alarm levels 1 and 2.
