The damaged vehicles blocked the lanes. One truck crossed the median strip into the motorbike lane, and the 7-seater car sustained significant rear-end damage. Traffic in the tunnel was paralyzed for nearly an hour.
Traffic police coordinated with tunnel management to document the scene and remove the vehicles to clear the road. The initial cause is believed to be drivers failing to maintain a safe distance.

The nearly 1.5 km long, 33 m wide, and 9 m high Thu Thiem Tunnel, with 6 lanes, is the only immersed tunnel in Vietnam. It opened in 2011. This is the most important part of Vo Van Kiet - Mai Chi Tho Boulevard and has seen numerous accidents.
