Around 7 a.m. on 17/9, the Superdong VII high-speed ferry, captained by Vu Xuan Thuy, departed Rach Gia for Phu Quoc.
Near Hon Nghe Island, the crew spotted Nguyen Thi Kim Nhat, 43, and her son Cao Van Sang, 18, clinging to a floating Styrofoam box and stopped to rescue them.

Due to stormy weather and high waves, it took about 15 minutes for the ferry to reach them. Nhat and her son were given water, food, and blankets, and their conditions stabilized.
Nhat said that earlier that morning, she, her husband, her son, and a friend were fishing when a storm caused their boat to sink. The four clung to a Styrofoam box, hoping for rescue.
Captain Thuy said the other two fishermen were rescued by the Thriving and brought safely ashore. "The crew are very happy to have helped, as rescuing others is the duty of those at sea," he said.
