Heavy rain sweeps away vehicles on Dong Nai streets

Prolonged heavy rain caused deep flooding on many streets in Bien Hoa urban area, with strong currents sweeping away motorbikes and commuters on the evening of 24/11.

Around 19h, a thunderstorm struck Bien Hoa City and its surrounding areas. On National Highway 1, in front of Thong Nhat General Hospital in Long Binh ward, powerful currents from alleys caused a 500 m stretch of road to flood over half a wheel deep. Many vehicles stalled, forcing drivers to push them.

Commuters attempting to cross intersections were knocked off their motorbikes and swept along by powerful currents emerging from alleys. Local residents rushed out to assist. "The heavy rain and lightning caused many people to pull over and wait for the water to recede, but some tried to cross and were swept away," said Tan from Long Binh ward.

The Tam Hiep underpass also experienced localized flooding, hindering traffic on National Highway 1 and causing prolonged congestion.

According to the Dong Nai Hydro-Meteorological Center, Bien Hoa recorded 23,5 mm of rainfall today, concentrated in Long Binh, Tam Hiep, Ho Nai wards, and several communes bordering the urban area.
