In recent days, Ho Chi Minh City has experienced consistently chilly nights and early mornings, with temperatures typically ranging from 20-22 degrees Celsius. Many motorcyclists have had to wear extra jackets and gloves to stay warm.
A representative from the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center stated that the cold air, penetrating deeply into the South combined with a clear sky effect, has caused a significant drop in temperatures. Tonight and early tomorrow morning, temperatures in Ho Chi Minh City are forecast to fall below 18 degrees Celsius, the lowest recorded since 2016. This temperature is measured at meteorological stations; actual outdoor temperatures could be 2-3 degrees Celsius lower.

Some weather forecast applications also recorded temperatures in Ho Chi Minh City at 16-17 degrees Celsius in the early morning of 9/1. Over the past 10 years, the lowest temperatures in Ho Chi Minh City typically fluctuated between 19-20 degrees Celsius, with 18,2 degrees Celsius recorded specifically in 2016.
According to meteorologist Le Thi Xuan Lan, temperatures in Ho Chi Minh City dropping below 18 degrees Celsius is a rare phenomenon, occurring once every several years. This is attributed to the impact of La Nina combined with intensified cold fronts from the North.
Forecasts indicate that the Southern region will continue to be affected by cold air until mid-January, with temperatures ranging from 20-22 degrees Celsius. This weather pattern is expected to last until near Tet Nguyen Dan 2026.
Data from the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center for the period 1976-2019 shows that the lowest temperature ever recorded in Ho Chi Minh City was 16,4 degrees Celsius on 25/12/1999, measured at the Tan Son Hoa station.
