On the morning of 16/9, Le Vu Truong Sang was driving a taxi carrying a woman 33 weeks pregnant with twin boys and her husband from Vinh Long province to Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. During the trip, the woman's water broke, causing her significant pain.
Upon reaching Vo Van Kiet Street near the Hai Thuong Lan Ong intersection (former District 5), they encountered heavy traffic. Checking his GPS, Sang saw that the routes to the hospital were also congested. He then decided to seek assistance from the traffic police at the intersection.
"It was 7 a.m., right during rush hour in Ho Chi Minh City. Many roads were jammed, and being from the countryside, I wasn't familiar with the city routes. I was just following Google Maps," Sang said.
Responding to the request, Senior Lieutenant Phan Cong Toai, an officer from the Cho Lon Traffic Police team who was managing traffic at Hong Bang Street (former District 5), quickly sought permission from his superiors. He then used his motorcycle to escort the taxi approximately 7 km to the hospital in just 7 minutes.
The taxi's dashcam footage shows the officer clearing the way ahead, asking other vehicles to slow down as they navigated through the heavy traffic. At times, the police motorcycle even guided the taxi onto the opposite side of the road to bypass the congestion.
The woman's husband, 27-year-old Vo Minh Phuc, reported that his wife arrived at the hospital in time and was resting in the antenatal ward awaiting surgery. He explained that his wife's water had broken unexpectedly at home. Initially, he considered taking her to a hospital in Can Tho. However, due to the high-risk nature of her twin pregnancy at just over eight months, he decided to go directly to Ho Chi Minh City for the best medical care.
"My wife was in great pain, and I was worried about our babies. Thankfully, the traffic police escorted us, ensuring we reached the hospital quickly," Phuc said, adding that he planned to personally thank the officer.
