Kenh Doi's north bank one year after groundbreaking

Along the 4 km north bank of Kenh Doi, several sections of embankment and bridges are being newly constructed after nearly one year of work.

The Kenh Doi north bank renovation project, an initiative valued at over 7,300 billion VND, commenced in 8/2025. Spanning a 4,3 km section of the canal through Chanh Hung and Phu Dinh wards in former District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, the project aims to enhance urban aesthetics, reduce pollution, and improve transport connectivity. After nearly one year of work, significant progress is evident along the 4 km stretch of the north bank, with several sections of embankment and bridges under construction.

Key components of the project include constructing approximately 4,3 km of new embankment, dredging a portion of the northern canal bed, and upgrading the Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy routes. These roads along the canal will feature a 20 m wide surface. Engineers and workers are currently deploying machinery for reinforced bored piles and embankment improvements.

Dredging machinery in the canal works alongside on-shore workers to improve the embankment and drainage systems on Nguyen Duy street.

Nguyen Duy street is also being widened to 20 m, incorporating new lighting and greenery.

Along the route, Hiep An 2 bridge, crossing U Cay canal, and its two approach embankments have taken shape, awaiting completion of access roads.

At the intersection of Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy streets, contractors are constructing the connecting infrastructure.

In some cleared sections along the route, the construction unit has erected corrugated iron fences to prevent disruptions to traffic and residents.

Along Nguyen Duy street, specifically near the Diamond Lotus apartment complex, a few houses have yet to hand over their sites.

This renovation project is part of Ho Chi Minh City's broader plan to clear houses built on and along canals, a long-standing urban challenge. Scheduled for completion in 2028, the initiative is expected to significantly contribute to urban beautification, reduce pollution, and foster tourism and transport connectivity, transforming the area for residents and visitors alike.
