Large fire destroys two fishing boats at My Tan port

Two fishing boats anchored at My Tan port, Vinh Hai commune, unexpectedly caught fire late on 2/5. Authorities mobilized resources to approach and extinguish the blaze.

Around 10 p.m. on 2/5, two fishing boats owned by Lam Van My and Nguyen Den, both residents of Vinh Hai commune, caught fire while anchored approximately 150 meters from shore. Strong winds in the area caused the flames to spread quickly, engulfing both vessels.

Upon discovering the incident, nearby fishermen used basket boats and small boats to approach the scene, attempting to douse the flames with water. However, their efforts could not control the blaze.

The incident produced a large smoke column, tens of meters high, visible from a distance. Other fishing boats anchored nearby had to move away to prevent the fire from spreading. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion just before the fire erupted, and there was no one on board either boat.

The Firefighting and Rescue Team Area 8, part of the Fire and Rescue Police Department of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, dispatched two fire trucks and approximately 10 officers and soldiers. They traveled over 18 kilometers to coordinate the response.

Using specialized boats, emergency personnel approached the scene and deployed water cannons to fight the fire. By approximately 11 p.m. that night, the blaze was brought under control.

By approximately 11 p.m., the fire on the two fishing boats was largely controlled. *Provided by Police*

At the scene, the two fishing boats were largely destroyed in their upper sections. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

My Tan is one of three major fishing ports in southern Khanh Hoa, located about 15 kilometers from the center of Phan Rang town.
