From the coast of Can Gio, Vung Tau appears clearly across Ganh Rai bay. The distance between the two shores is nearly 10 km, but people currently travel approximately 140 km, taking more than four hours by road. |
The Can Gio - Vung Tau sea-crossing road project will feature six to eight lanes and span 14,06 km. With an estimated investment of 93,016 billion dong, the project will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Build-Transfer (BT) contract. Vingroup has proposed to be the investor, responsible for capital arrangement, including land clearance, with payment made through an equivalent land fund. Completion is anticipated in early 2029.
According to the design, the starting point is at the Can Gio reclaimed urban area, and the ending point connects to the planned Sao Mai - Ben Dinh route, part of the former Vung Tau City, forming a direct transportation axis across Ganh Rai bay.
At the reclaimed area, construction has gradually taken shape more than one year after groundbreaking. Notably, the main road, approximately 8 km long, is nearing completion within the project, enhancing regional connectivity and synchronizing traffic infrastructure with the sea-crossing road.

According to the design, two artificial islands will be positioned at each end of the submerged tunnel in the sea. These islands will feature green spaces, utility structures, internal roads, parking lots, and other services. They will also serve as rest stops for residents and tourists to relax and enjoy the scenery during their journey. Photo: Investor |

The endpoint is located in a flooded area along the planned Sao Mai - Ben Dinh road, Tam Thang ward. From here, the bridge connects to 30 Thang 4 street, a gateway axis leading into Vung Tau urban area. |

The design of the sea-crossing bridge section before leading into the tunnel.
The investor's new proposal from last May increases the submerged tunnel's length from 3,1 km to nearly 3,9 km, with approximately 3 km submerged beneath the seabed. The sea-crossing bridge section also extends by about 200 m, reaching over 8 km. Meanwhile, the approach roads at both ends of the route are reduced to nearly 1,9 km, shortening the distance by one km compared to the previous proposal. Photo: Investor

Approximately 7 km from the sea-crossing road's endpoint, a sea ferry route between Vung Tau and Can Gio has been operating since 2020. The journey takes about 90-120 minutes, with continuous departures throughout the day, transporting both passengers and private vehicles.
Once the sea-crossing road is completed, people will travel between the two areas in 15-20 minutes, eliminating the need for ferry tickets or the long overland route.
