On 2/10, the Government Office announced that Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra approved the holiday schedule for 2026-2027 proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
This plan confirms a seven-day Lunar New Year holiday for officials, civil servants, and public employees, spanning from the 28th of the 12th lunar month (Binh Ngo year) to the end of the 5th of the 1st lunar month (Dinh Mui year), specifically from 4/2/2027 to 10/2/2027. Public sector employees are scheduled to return to work on the 6th day of Tet.

For the private sector, employers will determine the holiday schedule based on their operational needs. This must ensure the number of official paid leave days is not less than legally mandated and facilitates convenience for employees.
During the Lunar New Year, employers can choose from several options for their employees' leave: one day before and four days after Tet (5/2/2027-11/2/2027); two days before and three days after Tet (4/2/2027-10/2/2027); or three days before and two days after Tet (3/2/2027-9/2/2027).
In 2027, the National Day holiday for officials and public employees will include an additional day off immediately following the main holiday, specifically 3/9/2027. Combined with the two weekend days, this creates a continuous four-day break from 2/9/2027 to the end of 5/9/2027.
Vietnam currently provides 12 paid public holidays annually. These include: one day for New Year's Day, five days for Lunar New Year, one day for Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, one day for April 30th, one day for May 1st, two days for National Day, and one day for Vietnamese Culture Day.
