Most venerable Thich Tri Tinh passed away at 4:30 h on october 8 (corresponding to the 17th day of the 8th lunar month in the year of At Ty) at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in Xuan Hoa ward, Ho Chi Minh City, according to Central Office II of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

Born in 1932, Most Venerable Thich Tri Tinh entered monastic life at the age of 15 at Trung Hau ancestral pagoda in Vinh Phuc, now part of Hanoi. Throughout his life, he held significant positions, serving as the head of the Trung Hau lineage and spiritual advisor of Vinh Nghiem ancestral pagoda. He was also the abbot of several notable temples, including Linh Phong Thien Tu, Bao An Thien Tu, Bich Van Thien Tu, Kim Son Bao Thang Tu, and Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu.
The venerable monk founded Linh Phong Thien Uyen in Vung Tau City, formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, now part of Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City. In 2017, the 8th National Congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha venerated him to the position of vice patriarch of the executive council, a role he held until his passing.
The encoffining ceremony for Most Venerable Thich Tri Tinh will take place at 16:00 h today, with the sarcophagus placed at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda. A memorial service is scheduled for 5:00 h on october 12. Following the service, the sarcophagus will be moved to Linh Phong Thien Uyen in Vung Tau ward and interred in the stupa at 10:00 h on the same day.
The Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha functions as the supreme leadership body for Dharma and Vinaya (Buddhist precepts) within the Sangha. This council comprises senior venerables and monks renowned for their virtues and strict adherence to precepts. Its duties include overseeing, guiding, and supervising the spiritual practice and Buddhist activities of the entire Sangha. In contrast, the Governing Council represents the operational and organizational management of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
