Major General Huynh Viet Hoa, director of Can Tho City Police, announced that authorities found the motorcycle race track at Can Tho Stadium unsafe. This finding follows a fatal accident involving a racer during the 30/4 holiday, which he addressed at the City People's Committee's regular meeting on the afternoon of 6/5.
The accident, occurring six days ago, involved racer Dinh Hoang Quoc Hieu, 29. He suffered a fatal fall during the final round of the national championship motorcycle track race, losing control while cornering.
Can Tho City Police leaders instructed the City Police Investigation Agency to clarify issues related to the incident. They also recommended that relevant sectors should cease organizing races at the venue due to safety concerns.
The Can Tho City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation jointly organized the event.
Can Tho Stadium, spanning 6,5 hectares with a capacity of 30,000 seats, was constructed over 40 years ago. It regularly hosts many of the city's cultural events and festivals. Motorcycle races are held annually here on 30/4, 2/9, and Lunar New Year.
