Nguyen Thanh Nghi appointed head of central committee's policy and strategy division

Former Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee standing deputy secretary Nguyen Thanh Nghi has been appointed head of the Central Committee's Policy and Strategy Division.

Tran Cam Tu, permanent member of the Party Secretariat, announced the appointment at a cadre conference in Ho Chi Minh City on 25/8. Mr. Nghi replaces Tran Luu Quang, who was recently appointed Party Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City. The official decision will be presented to Mr. Nghi later today in Hanoi.

Mr. Nghi, 49, from Ca Mau, holds a doctorate in construction engineering. He began his career as a lecturer in June 1999 at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture. He held several positions there, including head of the postgraduate training and international relations department, vice president, and head of the postgraduate training and international relations office.

At the 11th National Party Congress in January 2011, Mr. Nghi was elected as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee. From November 2011 to February 2014, he served as deputy minister of construction.

He then transferred to Kien Giang province. From February 2014 to February 2020, he held the positions of deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, secretary of the provincial Party Committee, and head of the 14th National Assembly delegation of Kien Giang province.

From October 2020 to April 2021, he was a member of the Party Central Committee and returned to the Ministry of Construction as deputy minister. On 8/4/2021, at the 11th session of the 14th National Assembly, he was approved by the National Assembly as minister of construction. On 25/1, he was appointed standing deputy secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee by the Politburo, a position he held for seven months.

The Central Committee's Policy and Strategy Division, formerly the Central Economic Commission, advises the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat. It focuses on developing and orienting guidelines, policies, and strategies for socio-economic development and improving economic institutions, enhancing the Party's strategic advisory role.
