Speaking at the National Day celebration and parade on 2/9, Party General Secretary To Lam recalled that 80 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at the historic Ba Dinh Square, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
From that historic moment, Vietnam embarked on a new journey: building a people's government, defending the fatherland, and steadily advancing the country on the path of socialism, towards the goal of "a prosperous people, a strong country, democracy, equity, and civilization."
The Party, State, and people respectfully remember their ancestors, President Ho Chi Minh, revolutionary predecessors, and millions of compatriots and soldiers who sacrificed and contributed to the independence, freedom, and unification of the fatherland, and the happiness of the people.
The General Secretary acknowledged the contributions of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war veterans, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, families of martyrs, and those who contributed to the revolution; as well as workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, intellectuals, artists, the elderly, youth, women, children, religious communities, ethnic groups, overseas Vietnamese, friends, and progressive people worldwide. All have stood side by side, supporting the righteous revolutionary cause of the Vietnamese people for the past 80 years.
The General Secretary stated that every revolutionary victory is linked to the correct and wise leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh. The Party, the vanguard of the working class, working people, and the Vietnamese nation, has always steadfastly pursued the goal of national independence associated with socialism. The Party has creatively applied and developed Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought to suit the country's realities through each period, prioritizing the interests of the fatherland and the people above all else.
As a result, the nation has overcome countless difficulties and challenges. Vietnam has transformed from a colony into an independent and unified country, now steadily advancing towards modernity and deep integration. Its position and prestige are increasingly affirmed on the international stage.
The General Secretary said that protecting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the fatherland; maintaining security, order, and social safety for rapid and sustainable development; and constantly improving people's lives and happiness are the current call to action and President Ho Chi Minh's wish before his passing.
Over the past 80 years, the General Secretary affirmed that under the Party's banner, the light of Ho Chi Minh Thought, the strength of the people, and the great national unity bloc, there are no difficulties or challenges that the people cannot overcome, and no noble goals that the nation cannot achieve.
Looking towards the future, the Party has set the goal that by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the nation's founding, Vietnam will be a powerful, prosperous, and happy nation. This is the aspiration of the entire nation, an oath of honor before history and the people.
"I call upon the entire Party, people, and army, and our compatriots at home and abroad, to unite, join forces, and work together with concrete and practical actions to turn this aspiration into reality; to strive harder and be more determined; to promote Vietnamese intellect, creativity, and resilience; and to successfully achieve the goals and tasks set by the Party and State, which the people expect," the Party leader stated.
The General Secretary declared a firm commitment to protecting the independence, freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of every inch of the sacred land of the fatherland with the combined strength of the entire nation: political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, military, diplomatic, and the strength of the people's will.
Vietnam wishes to be a friend and reliable partner to all countries in the world. The country will also absolutely not concede to any plots or actions that infringe upon its independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; resolutely safeguarding national interests.
The General Secretary extended warmest congratulations to compatriots, comrades, soldiers nationwide, overseas Vietnamese, and international friends on the 80th anniversary of National Day.
"May Vietnam last forever; may the Vietnamese fatherland be peaceful, the Vietnamese nation prosperous and developed. Long live the glorious Socialist Republic of Vietnam! Long live the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam! The great President Ho Chi Minh lives forever in our cause. Glory forever belongs to the People," the General Secretary concluded his 15-minute speech.
