The incident occurred around 3h when a passenger bus with a TP HCM license plate, driven by Nguyen Hai Trung, 49, from Khanh Hoa, was traveling on the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway towards TP HCM.

Near Tan Lap commune, the bus collided with the rear of a Thanh Hoa-plated container truck driven by Luong Xuan Huan, 46, which was ahead in the same lane.

The impact severely damaged the bus front, injuring many passengers. Most victims were from Khanh Hoa, traveling to TP HCM.

Le Phu Nam, a medical assistant with the Ham Tan Medical Center Emergency Team, stated the unit deployed three ambulances to transport victims to emergency care.

Of the 19 injured, eight with minor injuries went to Ham Tan Medical Center. The remaining were transferred to Binh Thuan General Hospital. Three people in the front—the driver, assistant, and a young passenger—suffered severe injuries, while others had minor trauma.

Initial checks confirmed the bus driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Authorities attributed the incident to the driver failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
