Phu Quoc plans four reclaimed land areas

An Giang province has decided to add plans for four sea-reclaimed areas in Phu Quoc, totaling 161 ha, to the 4,500 ha of reclaimed land the province aims for by 2030.

This decision, recently approved by the An Giang Provincial People's Council, aims to secure land funds for compensating investors undertaking key projects for APEC 2027.

Specifically, the planned reclaimed areas include 26 ha at Bai Dat Do, 84 ha at Bai Xep, 34 ha at Hon Thom, and 17 ha at Mui Ong Doi. These sites are located in the southern part of the island, near the APEC conference center.

Concurrently with the new reclaimed areas, the province also removed approximately 70 ha in Duong Dong urban area from the list of land funds designated for investor compensation.

According to professional agencies, the addition of these reclaimed areas aligns with An Giang province's master plan. This plan aims to research sea reclamation and construct breakwaters to create approximately 4,500 ha of land by 2030 in key areas such as Phu Quoc, Tho Chau, Ha Tien, and Rach Gia.

In preparation for APEC 2027, Phu Quoc is implementing 21 key projects, including 10 public investment projects.

The special administrative economic zone spans over 570 km2 and comprises 51 wards. In 2025, the island welcomed over 8,1 million visitors, including more than 1,8 million international tourists, generating nearly 44,000 billion VND in tourism revenue.
