Prime minister mandates faster driver's license processing

The prime minister has directed the ministry of public security to reduce driver's license processing times from 7 days to 4.5 business days in 2025. Renewal and reissue processing will decrease from 5 days to 3.5 business days.

According to the decision on 3/9, this change will save 2.5 days compared to current regulations. Vietnam currently has approximately 55.6 million driver's licenses for cars and motorcycles.

First-time vehicle registration for domestically produced and imported vehicles will be fully online. Online or in-person renewals and reissues of registration certificates and license plates will receive a 30% discount on fees. Results will be integrated into the VNeID app. Temporary vehicle registration will also be available fully or partially online, with a 30% fee reduction.

In localities with sufficient marital data, the government will pilot online registration certificate and license plate issuance through the public service portal for vehicle ownership changes, saving citizens time and money.

The prime minister also decided to eliminate the reissue of testing permits for type 1, 2, and 3 driving test centers in cases of damage, loss, or name changes. These permits will become electronic, with online adjustments for name changes.
