Prime minister proposes Chinese group to build Tan Son Nhat - Long Thanh subway

Prime minister Pham Minh Chinh suggests Pacific Construction Group research participation in building the subway project from Tan Son Nhat airport to Long Thanh.

On the afternoon of 9/1, the Prime Minister received Mr. Yan Jiehe, founder of Pacific Construction Group, a major Chinese private enterprise in infrastructure investment, construction, operation, and management, which has been consistently ranked among the top 500 global corporations for 10 consecutive years.

Beyond the proposed subway project connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports, the Prime Minister urged the group to increase its investments in Vietnam. This includes collaborating with local enterprises on significant projects that incorporate technology transfer. Such efforts, he noted, would not only support Vietnam's socioeconomic development but also strengthen bilateral relations and bring mutual benefits.

Mr. Yan Jiehe responded by confirming that Pacific Construction Group has secured bids and is currently executing three major projects in Hanoi: the construction of Tu Lien bridge and its two approach roads, Ngoc Hoi bridge and its two approach roads, and the Van Cao - Hoa Lac urban railway line. He expressed the group's commitment to further participate in significant infrastructure projects and maintain a long-term engagement in Vietnam, in line with the Prime Minister's directives. Notably, Pacific Construction Group plans to partner with Vietnam Railways Corporation on a railway industrial complex and metro projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In October 2025, Ho Chi Minh City submitted an official proposal to government leaders, suggesting a railway connection between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports. This connection would utilize metro line 2 and subsequently link to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh line.

Under the proposed plan, passengers departing from Tan Son Nhat airport terminal would transfer to Ba Queo station on metro line 2, which runs from Tham Luong to Ben Thanh and Thu Thiem. From Ba Queo, they would then connect to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line to reach Long Thanh airport.

Beyond this option, the master plan outlines three additional railway connection routes between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports:

  • Through metro line 6 and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway.
  • Through metro lines 4 and 2, and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway.
  • Through metro lines 2 and 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien extended), metro line 2 in Dong Nai, and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway.
