On 13/9, Hoa Long Commune Police, in coordination with the Dong Thap Province Forest Protection Sub-department and the Dong Tam Snake Farm, received two otters from 26-year-old Luu Minh Nhut, a resident of Hoa Long Commune (formerly Lai Vung District).
Nhut said he found the otter pair about two weeks ago while working in the fields. After learning they were a rare species, he proactively handed them over to the authorities.

The two otters, one male and one female, are now being cared for at the Dong Tam Snake Farm for conservation and breeding.
According to Circular 27/2025 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, otters are classified as endangered and rare animals in Group IB, and are prioritized for protection.
Earlier in August, the Dong Tam Snake Farm also received a 3.5 kg small-clawed otter handed over by the Dong Thap Province Border Guard.
