Rockslide disrupts north-south railway

Three boulders tumbled down a mountainside, shifting the railway tracks near Lac Son station in Tuyen Hoa commune about 30 cm off center, halting several trains on Tuesday morning.

After 6 a.m., a landslide occurred on the mountainside adjacent to the north-south railway near Lac Son station in Tuyen Hoa commune. Three boulders, estimated to be between 1.5 and 3 cubic meters, rolled down the slope, damaging and dislodging the railway tracks. No trains were passing through at the time.

Quang Binh Railway Joint Stock Company mobilized personnel and equipment to address the incident. By after 10 a.m., a crane had removed the boulders from the tracks. Trains passing through Quang Tri province were instructed to stop at the nearest station.

The railway line through Quang Tri province traverses challenging terrain, featuring tight curves, steep inclines, and mountainous areas. Several sections run between high mountains and deep rivers, making them susceptible to rockslides that threaten railway safety.
