Seven vehicles in chain collision on Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway

A 16-seat car hit a sleeper bus, causing a chain reaction that heavily damaged several vehicles and led to a long traffic jam on the expressway on the last afternoon of the holiday.

Around 2:30 PM on 4/1, cars were queuing on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway, heading from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM) after the New Year 2026 holiday.

Upon reaching Xuan Que commune, a 16-seat car unexpectedly collided with the rear of a Ho Chi Minh City-registered sleeper bus. This bus then moved forward, hitting a 5-seat tourist car in front, creating a chain collision.

The accident resulted in seven heavily damaged vehicles and some passengers sustaining minor injuries. The expressway experienced congestion stretching for several kilometers. Traffic police had to reroute vehicles traveling from Lam Dong to Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM) onto National Highway 1 to continue their journey.

The Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway is 99 km long, with a total investment exceeding 12,500 billion VND, connecting Dong Nai with Lam Dong. Recently, the route has seen frequent accidents, primarily due to drivers failing to maintain a safe distance.
