The People's Committee of Tay Ninh Province has formally requested that Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee, the Ministry of Construction, and the Vietnamese government incorporate the Bau Bang - Moc Bai railway into the national railway network plan and the detailed regional railway plan.
The proposed 57-km double-track railway, with a 1,435 mm gauge, will have a 12.5-meter road surface and a 40-meter corridor. It will begin at Tan Hung station in Ben Cat, Ho Chi Minh City, running parallel to the Binh Duong - Tay Ninh industrial, urban, and service development road. The line will terminate at Moc Bai station in the Moc Bai border gate economic zone in Tay Ninh. The route spans 27 km within Tay Ninh Province and 30 km within Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Tay Ninh's People's Committee, the railway will drive freight and passenger transport between the two localities, while also supporting the development of ecotourism along the Saigon River and Dau Tieng Lake. The project is also expected to boost industry and logistics in the Moc Bai border gate economic zone and neighboring areas of Ho Chi Minh City, with positive effects extending throughout the southeastern region.
The railway was previously included in the 2021-2030 planning phase, with a vision to 2050, by the former Binh Duong and Tay Ninh provinces. However, the project has yet to be included in the revised national planning scheme.
