During these times, vehicles traveling from District 1's Saigon ward to Thu Duc City's An Khanh ward should follow this route: Vo Van Kiet Street - parallel road - Ton Duc Thang Street - Ba Son Bridge - R12 Road - To Huu Street - Mai Chi Tho Street. Vehicles going in the opposite direction should take Mai Chi Tho Street - To Huu Street - R12 Road - Ba Son Bridge - Le Duan Street - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street - Vo Van Kiet Street.

The Urban Traffic Management Center developed this fire and rescue drill to proactively minimize potential damage in the event of a fire or explosion. In addition to the drills, an automatic fire suppression system has been installed within the tunnel to address any incidents that may arise.

The 1.5 km Thu Thiem Tunnel, inaugurated in 2011, is the most important component of the East-West Highway (Vo Van Kiet - Mai Chi Tho). The tunnel is 33 meters wide and 9 meters high, with 6 lanes, and currently handles approximately 55,000 cars and 300,000 motorbikes daily.
