On the morning of 17/9, Tran Minh Hoang, 52, from Ho Chi Minh City, was driving a Nghe An-registered truck belonging to Thanh Cua Freight Transport Co., Ltd., with Vo Nhat Truong, 48, as a passenger. They were traveling on National Highway 9 from Dong Ha towards the Lao border.

While descending a slope and approaching the traffic light in front of Tan Long market in Lao Bao commune, the truck lost control and crashed directly into people trading bananas at the roadside market. This banana trading spot, a familiar agricultural exchange point for residents of the Quang Tri border and Laos, has existed for over 10 years.

The front of the truck became lodged under the awning of a watch repair kiosk. The truck's front end sustained significant damage, with the windshield shattered by embedded sheet metal. (Author or Source)

The mother of one of the Laotian victims sobbed uncontrollably over the death of her daughter.

According to Director of Quang Tri Provincial Police Department Nguyen Thanh Liem, authorities are investigating the scene and managing potential complications due to the high volume of traffic on the national highway. "Units will enhance traffic control and prevent roadside trading encroachments," he said.
