Truck kills 18 cows

An excavator transport truck killed 18 cows, leading to over 300 million VND in compensation for three families.

On the afternoon of 21/8, an excavator transport truck was traveling on an inter-village road from Ia Phi (Gia Lai) towards Ia Chim (Quang Ngai). As it reached a slope at the entrance to Op village, the truck suddenly accelerated.

The driver lost control, and the truck plowed into a herd of over 40 cows belonging to three village families. 18 cows died instantly, scattered along nearly 100 meters of road. The truck finally came to a stop after crashing into roadside trees.

The truck owner agreed to compensate the families: 160 million VND for the family who lost 11 cows, 140 million VND for the family who lost 6, and 5 million VND for the family who lost one calf. The families sold the carcasses to mitigate their losses.

The driver told authorities that the "truck's brakes had failed."
