At approximately 12:30 on 1/2, a truck with a Hanoi license plate was traveling on National Highway 6, heading from Hanoi towards Son La. As it reached Da Trang Pass in Mai Chau commune, Phu Tho, the vehicle sped down a curve, suspected of having lost its brakes.
Initially, the driver swerved close to the downhill guardrail to avoid a truck, then encountered a motorbike from the opposite lane. Fortunately, the motorbike driver reacted quickly, swerving out of its path. The truck then swerved back to its lane to prevent plunging into a ravine, colliding with another truck, pushing it into a ditch and against the roadside embankment.
The truck continued to speed forward, narrowly missing three four-seater vehicles. It then crashed into the downhill guardrail before veering across the opposite lane, colliding with a mountainside and overturning.
Mai Chau Commune Police reported that the two truck drivers sustained injuries.
National Highway 6 is a key transport route connecting Hanoi with Son La, Hoa Binh, and Dien Bien provinces. Thung Khe Pass, also known as Da Trang Pass, has sharp turns, steep gradients, and high cliffs alongside deep ravines, posing a risk of landslides.
