Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital 7, stationed with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), recently held a ceremony to receive the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal.
Major General Junhui Wu, the UNMISS Force Commander, stated that Vietnam has become a highly regarded contributor to peacekeeping efforts since deploying its first Level 2 Field Hospital to Bentiu in 2018.
Over seven continuous deployments in South Sudan, Vietnamese field hospitals have consistently demonstrated professionalism, high expertise, and dedication in their duties. "Whether as commanders, doctors, nurses, technicians, or logistics personnel, each individual plays a vital role in the success of this deployment term," emphasized the Force Commander.

United Nations agencies in the region also acknowledged that throughout their deployment, Vietnamese military medical personnel provided high-quality healthcare services, ranging from routine examinations to emergency care, life-saving surgeries, and specialized treatments. These efforts contributed to ensuring the health of personnel operating in a complex and challenging environment.
Through medical examination and treatment programs, health education, and support for vulnerable groups, Vietnamese "blue berets" (peacekeepers) helped spread the humanitarian image of United Nations peacekeeping forces to the people of South Sudan.
Speaking on behalf of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Tai, the Hospital Director, stated that for nearly one year of service in South Sudan, the force has maintained 24/7 medical examination, treatment, and emergency services for peacekeeping forces, United Nations staff, and local residents. The unit has received and treated thousands of patients, successfully performing numerous emergency cases, surgeries, air medical evacuations, dental and maxillofacial care, and specialized treatments for patients from various countries.
In addition to their professional duties, the unit also carried out civil-military cooperation activities, humanitarian medical examinations, health education campaigns, and supported disadvantaged residents in the area. He emphasized that the medal is not a measure of the hospital members' contributions but a reminder of their proud journey of service in South Sudan.
Level 2 Field Hospital 7 was deployed to South Sudan in 9/2025. The hospital is staffed by 63 officers and personnel, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, technicians, and logistics staff. Its main tasks include examining, providing emergency care, and treating inpatients and outpatients for United Nations military personnel, police, and civilian staff: performing emergency surgeries, intensive care, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and specialized medical services.
South Sudan remains a security and political hotspot in Africa. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) continues to play a vital role in protecting civilians, supporting the peace process, and facilitating humanitarian operations.
