An accident occurred on the afternoon of 4/1 at the HCMC - Long Thanh expressway expansion project site, specifically in Cau Xeo hamlet, Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province. A group of workers was repairing steel pile foundations for the project when a 33-year-old male worker from Ca Mau was tragically killed.
The worker was standing beneath a foundation when a large steel pile, weighing tens of tons, fell from above and struck him. Despite efforts by others to use lifting machinery to free the victim, the worker had already died. The scene was immediately sealed off by authorities for investigation.
The HCMC - Long Thanh expressway has been operational for 10 years and has become overloaded, frequently experiencing congestion. To address this, an expansion project began construction on 19/8/2025, with an investment exceeding 16,300 billion VND. The project aims to widen the road to 8-10 lanes, covering a distance of nearly 22 km, from the Ring Road 2 HCMC interchange to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway interchange.
