"It's very disappointing. This was a painful punch to the face," Arteta said after the match at Emirates Stadium on 11/4. "There's no gray area. Today we did the basics very poorly, and the opponent punished us. The game became chaotic and very difficult to control. We have to accept this pain. It feels terrible. But tomorrow is another day."
This match was seen as an opportunity for Arsenal to extend their lead over second-place Man City to 12 points. However, they inexplicably squandered it, delivering one of their worst performances of the season. Arteta's team displayed a loose defense and a lackluster attack, with an expected goals (xG) from combined plays at just 0,19. In the first half, Bournemouth exploited the space behind Ben White to open the scoring with Eli Junior Kroupi's tap-in. In the 35th minute, Viktor Gyokeres scored a penalty to equalize 1-1, but this failed to awaken the home side. In the second half, following a misplaced pass from Gabriel Magalhaes, Alex Scott broke free and scored past David Raya in a one-on-one situation, securing Bournemouth's 2-1 victory.

This defeat marks Arsenal's third consecutive loss in domestic competitions, following a 0-2 loss to Man City in the League Cup final and a 1-2 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
This continued stumbling not only cost Arsenal their advantage but also raised doubts about their mettle in the title race, especially after they have faltered multiple times in decisive stages. The Gunners are still 9 points ahead of Man City but have played two more matches and will visit their rivals in the next round on 19/4.
Theoretically, Man City will win the championship if they win all their remaining matches, including make-up games. When asked about this, Arteta emphasized: "We cannot control what they do. The only thing we can control is our own performance over the past nine months. One of the things I didn't see today was the excitement at times, as well as the fighting spirit to turn things around when the game became difficult. From now until June, there will be many different scenarios, and we must adapt and solve everything if we want to achieve our goals."
The Spanish coach later suggested that the absence of many key players, such as Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber, Martin Odegaard, and Riccardo Calafiori due to injury, significantly affected the squad. "We need everyone; we need every player healthy and ready. Those absent today are all very important. When they return, the squad will be much stronger," he stated. "The rest of us must step up, starting with myself, and accept this challenge to move forward."
Arteta also refused to use the congested fixture schedule as an excuse for key players being overloaded, injured, and affecting the team's performance. "I don't want to make excuses. We have played one match every three days and will continue to do so. That is the reality, and we must accept, even enjoy, this opportunity," the 44-year-old coach expressed.
Ultimately, Arteta apologized to the fans and urged the entire team to immediately focus on the Sporting match, the Champions League quarterfinals second leg, on 15/4, where they hold a 1-0 advantage. "We have a chance to reach the Champions League semifinals, and that is what we need to focus on right now," he stressed. "But once again, we need to go through this pain and use it in the right way. If you want to win such tournaments, you have to overcome difficult moments. Let's get through today's pain, and tomorrow will be a new beginning."
