Cucurella tattoos coach De La Fuente

Defender Marc Cucurella fulfilled his promise to get a tattoo of coach Luis de la Fuente after winning the 2026 World Cup.

Over one week after Spain secured their second world title by defeating Argentina, Marc Cucurella, the 28-year-old left-back, fulfilled a pre-tournament promise. Before the final match, in an interview with Youtuber El Partidazo de COPE, Cucurella pledged to get a tattoo of his coach, Luis de la Fuente, if Spain emerged victorious. On 28/7, he shared a post on the social media platform X, showcasing a tattoo of De La Fuente holding the golden trophy on his bicep.

The tattoo was created by Ganga, a renowned artist who has previously collaborated with basketball star LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo's fiancee, Georgina Rodriguez.

While Cucurella promptly kept his promise, his teammate Lamine Yamal has yet to fulfill his. The 19-year-old right winger had pledged to grow a beard and mustache for three weeks if Spain won the championship.

Spain's journey to their second World Cup title culminated in a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final match on 19/7 in the United States. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, securing Spain's place as the seventh national team to win two or more championships. They now join an elite group alongside Brazil (5), Germany, Italy (4), Argentina (3), France, and Uruguay (2).

Cucurella was a pivotal player throughout Spain's victorious campaign. The Real Madrid Club left-back played in all eight matches, contributing two assists and creating seven scoring opportunities. His consistent performance earned him a spot on the team of the tournament, as selected by fans on the FIFA website and by experts on ESPN.

Cucurella began his international career with Spain in 2021, having played 32 matches and scored one goal. Under coach De La Fuente's leadership, he has become a regular starter, achieving consecutive victories in Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup.

Coach De La Fuente's club career was less prominent compared to other managers. He coached a few lower-division teams and Bilbao's youth squads before a brief period with Alaves.

However, De La Fuente's impact became significant when he took charge of Spain's national teams. He led the U19 and U21 squads to European Championships, and secured a silver medal at the 2021 Olympics. In 2022, he took over the senior Spain national team, guiding them to three consecutive major titles over the past three years: the 2023 Nations League, Euro 2024, and the 2026 World Cup.

The main events of the 2026 World Cup final saw Spain defeat Argentina 1-0.
