The DR Congo national team was initially scheduled to convene for a three-day training camp in the capital, Kinshasa, and hold a farewell ceremony for fans before traveling to the United States for the World Cup. However, these plans have been canceled following an outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain, a rare variant of the Ebola virus, which has claimed over 130 lives and led to nearly 600 suspected cases.
The deadly virus has not directly impacted the team members. Most players and coach Sebastien Desabre reside abroad, primarily playing in France. While some coaching staff are currently in the country, they are expected to depart soon.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a public health emergency concerning the Bundibugyo strain. This week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a 30-day entry ban for foreign nationals who have been in DR Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan within the last three weeks.
According to a U.S. official, the ban will not affect the majority of the DR Congo national team. However, assistant coaches returning to the African nation within three weeks will be required to quarantine.
The Ebola virus causes hemorrhagic fever in humans and primates. Following infection, which can manifest between two days and three weeks, patients typically experience symptoms such as fever, sore throat, muscle pain, and headache. These are often followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, and reduced liver and kidney function. The disease carries an average mortality risk of approximately 50%.
The DR Congo national team secured its spot in the World Cup after a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in a playoff match on 31/3. As part of their preparation, they are scheduled to play friendly matches against Denmark in Belgium on 3/6 and against Chile in Spain on 9/6. Their tournament campaign will begin with three group K matches: facing Portugal on 17/6, Colombia on 23/6, and Uzbekistan on 27/6.
