Former coach of Cong Phuong's forged resignation letter from Cameroon national team

Coach Marc Brys claims his email was hacked and denies resigning, contradicting an earlier announcement from the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

A letter dated 21/7, allegedly from Brys to the Ministry of Sports and FECAFOOT, stated his resignation was due to FECAFOOT's failure to pay him and the coaching staff for over 60 days.

When the letter was published, FECAFOOT said in a statement that they had acknowledged the resignation and would seek a replacement for the national team coaching staff.

However, Brys later sent a letter to the Ministry of Sports, explaining that his email may have been hacked and the resignation letter was not written by him.

The Cameroonian Ministry of Sports confirmed Brys is still in his coaching role. FECAFOOT has not yet officially responded to the incident.

Marc Brys has clashed with legend Samuel Eto'o since becoming Cameroon's head coach.

This is the latest development in the ongoing struggle between Brys, FECAFOOT, and the Ministry of Sports.

The Cameroonian Ministry of Sports appointed Brys as head coach of the national team in 4/2024, but did not inform FECAFOOT beforehand. The Cameroonian Football Federation, headed by legend Samuel Eto'o, initially did not recognize this decision, leading to ongoing tension in Cameroonian football. Eto'o was absent from Brys' introduction and has had several direct conflicts with him.

Several players, including Moumi Ngamaleu (Dynamo Moscow) and Andre Onana (Man Utd), have called for internal unity and keeping football free from political interference, expressing concern over the power struggle within the team.

This latest incident comes as Cameroon risks missing the 2026 World Cup. In Group D of the African qualifiers, Cameroon is currently second with 12 points, one point behind Cape Verde.

According to the format, the 9 top teams in each group will qualify for the 2026 World Cup, while the 4 best second-placed teams will be drawn into a play-off round. Cameroon must win against Cape Verde in September to control their own destiny.

Cameroon will also participate in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco from 21/12/2025 to 18/1/2026. Brys' team is in the same group as defending champions Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Mozambique.

Brys is an experienced Belgian coach who has managed several clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia. The biggest highlight of his club career was winning the Belgian Cup in the 2004-2005 season with Germinal Beerschot. This is also the only major title in the club's history.

Previously, Brys helped the small club Berchem Sport achieve consecutive promotions from the Fourth Division to the Second Division of Belgium, demonstrating his ability to build a team for the long term. He also worked at Mechelen, Sint-Truiden, and Oud-Heverlee Leuven, clubs with long histories in the Belgian First Division. In 2020, Brys was awarded the Raymond Goethals Award, the prize for the best coach of the year in Belgium.

Brys also coached Cong Phuong at the Belgian club Sint-Truiden.
