"At the club, we train extensively every day. With the national team, however, we have less time," Gabriel said at a press conference before Brazil's 2026 World Cup Group C match against Haiti. "I am trying to help the team score from set pieces, as these situations are very effective."

During the 2025-2026 Premier League season, Arsenal scored 25 goals from set pieces (excluding penalties), leading the league. Of these, 19 goals came from corner kicks, setting a new league record.
Gabriel, a frequent target for crosses, benefited greatly from this strategy, scoring three goals for Arsenal. The team's proficiency in set pieces played a crucial role in the London club ending three consecutive seasons as runners-up and securing their first Premier League title in 22 years.
Arsenal also reached the Champions League final, ultimately losing to PSG in a penalty shootout. Gabriel was one of two Arsenal players who missed their spot-kicks.

Joining the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup immediately after the Champions League final reportedly helped Gabriel overcome the disappointment of missing his penalty. "I have nothing to complain about," the 28-year-old center-back stated. "I had a great season with Arsenal, winning the Premier League after 22 years. I am happy to represent my country and feel at ease."
Addressing the differences between playing for Arsenal and the national team, Gabriel noted that adapting to coach Carlo Ancelotti's system takes time. "At the club, we work every day," the 28-year-old explained. "With the national team, you play alongside the best players. We strive to adapt quickly and understand the coach's requirements. This demands practice and time."
Brazil's opening 2026 World Cup match against Morocco proved disappointing, ending in a 1-1 draw. In the first half, they conceded to Ismael Saibari in the 21st minute and appeared outplayed. While Vinicius equalized approximately 10 minutes later with a solo effort, the team's performance lacked spark. Coach Ancelotti utilized all five substitutions in the second half, but the "Selecao" failed to improve their position and secure a victory.
Gabriel acknowledged that Brazil has not yet displayed the characteristics of a team aiming to control matches. He emphasized the need for defensive improvements, noting the team has conceded in their last six games. "If we don't concede, we will be closer to winning," he asserted. "Teamwork is crucial. We understand the importance of clean sheets and will approach the next match with a positive mindset, aiming for victory."
