On 2/5/2024, at La Beaujoire stadium, Marseille controlled possession for 58% of the match, taking 16 shots with eight on target, compared to Nantes' 16 shots with five on target. However, the visiting team squandered their opportunities and conceded three goals in just eight minutes, between the 50th and 58th minutes. This 0-3 defeat saw Marseille drop to 7th place in Ligue 1 with 53 points, 5 points adrift of the champions league qualification spots, with only two rounds remaining in the season.

In this match, Greenwood played the full 90 minutes. The French forward touched the ball 54 times, completed 71% of his passes with one key pass, had two shots on target, registered an expected goals (xG) statistic of just 0,13, and lost possession 17 times.
Sofascore, a specialized statistics website, rated Greenwood 6,3 points, the same as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Arthur Vermeeren, and Emerson Palmieri, and only slightly higher than right-back Tochukwu Nnadi (5,9 points).
However, local newspaper La Provence gave the entire Marseille squad a 0 rating, with Greenwood's performance described as "shameful". The newspaper characterized the former Man Utd player's display as "terrible from start to finish", criticizing his lack of effort, frequent loss of possession, complaining to teammates, and behaving as if he were performing a circus act with overly complicated and unnecessary maneuvers.
Greenwood was not the only player singled out for criticism; other former premier league players, such as Aubameyang (who previously played for Arsenal and Chelsea) and Hojbjerg (formerly of Tottenham), also faced scrutiny. Aubameyang was chastised for "passing to opponents more than teammates", while Hojbjerg was deemed to be playing below his usual standard, with numerous inaccurate passes.
Despite scoring 15 goals in Ligue 1 this season, Greenwood has experienced a noticeable dip in form, with only one goal in his last nine matches. The 24-year-old forward's declining performance reflects Marseille's stagnation during a crucial period. The southern French club had been in 4th place – a champions league play-off spot – before coach Roberto De Zerbi left in february.
According to French media, if Marseille fails to secure a champions league spot, the club may need to sell key players to balance its finances. Greenwood is among the names likely to depart, with Juventus and Dortmund reportedly interested. Marseille is said to be demanding a transfer fee of at least 60 million USD.
In summer 2024, Greenwood moved to Marseille due to an uncertain future at Old Trafford after being accused of attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior towards his girlfriend in october 2022.
For the 2023-2024 season, the English forward played for Getafe on loan. At the Spanish club, he rediscovered his form with six assists and 10 goals across 36 appearances in all competitions, including eight goals in La Liga and two in the Copa del Rey. As a result, Greenwood was voted Getafe's player of the season for 2023-2024.
