For night marathons, attire is crucial for both aesthetics and athlete safety. The 2026 season jersey, designed with this in mind, reflects the trend of using high-contrast colors against urban night lights.
Night running presents visual challenges for participants. Streetlights, vehicle lights, and billboards create complex light and dark zones. In these conditions, appropriate attire acts as a crucial signal, allowing runners to be identified early from a distance, particularly at bends or turns.
The organizing committee's selection of neon green aligns with visual safety research. A study by Bogdan Cornel Benea from Transylvania University, Romania, indicates that neon-colored attire significantly improves visibility compared to dark clothing in low-light conditions.
"Better visibility also enhances the race experience. The prominent jersey color allows runners to stride confidently and helps the photography team easily capture race moments," a representative from the organizing committee stated.

Beyond functionality, this year's jersey design captures the dynamic spirit of the "city that never sleeps". The neon green hue offers a modern feel, combined with patterns mimicking moving light streaks, evoking Saigon's vibrant night atmosphere.
Runners can pair the jersey with dark pants or leggings, like black or dark gray, to highlight the upper body. Shoes with reflective details or matching neon green accents will provide a perfect finishing touch. For those preferring a striking style, an entire outfit in the same tone creates an energetic overall look.
Launched in 2023, the VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight quickly became Vietnam's largest night race. It maintained 11,000 athletes in its 2023 and 2024 seasons, growing to 12,000 participants last year. This season's race, scheduled for 22/3, takes place right after the Lunar New Year, offering the running community an early-year gathering and a chance to kick off a new race season.
