While Parc des Princes did not witness the devastating defeat many Liverpool fans feared, the class difference between PSG and Arne Slot's team was evident throughout the Champions League quarter-final match. Liverpool failed to register a single shot on target, maintained only 26% possession, and recorded an expected goals (xG) statistic of just 0,18 compared to the defending champions' 2,19.

A fortunate deflected shot from Desire Doue and a goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave the hosts a deserved first-leg advantage. The score could have been wider had PSG capitalized on their numerous clear-cut chances. Ousmane Dembele missed three distinct opportunities, with his final attempt striking the outside of the post. Nuno Mendes and Doue also failed to exploit Liverpool's fragility.
Liverpool departed Paris with a glimmer of hope, despite arriving with almost none. They will require a remarkable resurgence merely to challenge the reigning European champions at Anfield next Tuesday.
