"Looking at the entire match, I think we were fortunate to only lose 0-2. They created more scoring opportunities than the goals they scored," Slot told TNT Sports after the match.
At Parc des Princes on the evening of 8/4, Liverpool controlled only 26% of possession, with three shots, all off target. PSG, in contrast, took 17 shots, with seven on target. The Premier League side started well but conceded a goal in the 11th minute from a deflected shot by Desire Doue. Following this, Liverpool lost control of the game and conceded another goal from a solo effort by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Slot identified some positives, including a strong performance from goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, comparing him to Manuel Neuer in the Bayern Munich versus Real Madrid match. "Mamardashvili's saves were crucial," the 47-year-old coach said. "Yesterday, Neuer made many saves for Bayern, and today Giorgi did the same for us. When facing PSG, you need such performances."
Slot surprised many by employing a 3-4-3 formation and benching Mohamed Salah to limit PSG's attacking power, but he admitted the tactic was ineffective.
"We were on the back foot for most of the match. When we tried to press, the team was immediately exposed," the Dutch coach stated. "They possess speed in every position. Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes created an incredible attacking threat, not just with their pace, but at a higher level than normal speed."
In Paris yesterday, Liverpool's expected goals (xG) metric was only 0,17, their lowest in all competitions under Slot. Liverpool's two lowest attacking metrics in 105 matches since Slot took charge both occurred at PSG's stadium, with 0,27 xG in 3/2025 and 0,17 xG in 4/2026.
Despite disappointment in both defense and attack, Slot remains confident in their ability to stage a comeback. He expects the atmosphere at Anfield to provide a significant boost in the second leg.
"PSG were the better team, but we do not give up, and that is why there is still a chance," he emphasized. "We will show a different face at Anfield. If we want to press aggressively, the fans will help a lot with the passionate atmosphere. Football always has red cards, penalties, and do not forget Anfield can make a big difference. Fans always have a big impact, and right now we need them more than ever."
On the opposing side, coach Luis Enrique believed PSG should have secured a more decisive victory given their dominant performance. The Spanish coach affirmed that PSG would not play defensively to protect their advantage in the second leg at Anfield on 14/4. He also expressed surprise at his counterpart Slot benching Mohamed Salah and employing a defensive system. "This is the first time under Slot that Liverpool have played with five defenders this season," Enrique noted.
