Nguyen Thi Oanh made the most significant contribution to Vietnam's athletics achievements. The runner from Bac Giang secured all gold medals in her signature events: the 5,000m, 10,000m, and 3,000m steeplechase. She became the first athlete to win the 5,000m event at five consecutive SEA Games, raising her career SEA Games gold medal tally to 15, matching the records of Jennifer Tin Lay (Myanmar) and Elma Muros (Philippines).

Quach Thi Lan reaffirmed her dominance in the women's 400m hurdles, winning a gold medal with a time of 56,82 seconds. In the men's event, Nguyen Trung Cuong successfully defended his gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking 08:55.32.
Beyond experienced mainstays, several young athletes made their mark at the Games. Tran Thi Loan secured a gold medal in the women's long jump with a distance of 6,53m. Bui Thi Kim Anh, 19 years old, earned a gold medal in the women's high jump by clearing 1,86m.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc was one of the team's most prominent performers, winning three gold medals in the 400m, women's 4x400m relay, and mixed 4x400m relay events. The mixed 4x400m relay team not only secured a gold medal but also broke a SEA Games record. Meanwhile, the 4x100m relay team, comprising many young athletes, won a silver medal.
