Exceptional experiences in Perth, the 'city of lights'

From magical stargazing in the desert to turquoise beaches and wine valleys, Perth captivates visitors with its diverse scenery and unique experiences.

Perth, the capital of Western Australia, sits on the shores of the Indian Ocean and is one of Australia’s largest cities. Nicknamed the "city of lights," it boasts a mild Mediterranean climate with year-round sunshine and pristine, majestic natural landscapes.

Perth's "city of lights" moniker originated in 1962 when American astronaut John Glenn saw the city brilliantly illuminated from space. Knowing Glenn's trajectory, Perth residents simultaneously switched on their lights, creating a striking scene against the night. Since then, the name has been associated with the city, symbolizing its urban beauty and hospitality.

Today, Perth's radiant glow comes not only from its shimmering buildings at night but also from the star-studded desert sky—one of the world's rare astronomical wonders. Leaving the bustling city, visitors only need to drive about two hours from central Perth to reach the Pinnacles Desert, a prime stargazing location in Australia.

Nightfall at the Pinnacles creates a mystical and tranquil scene. The Milky Way appears vividly, dotted with millions of twinkling stars. On clear nights, visitors can see the Southern Cross (Crux), the Pleiades star cluster, the Centaurus and Carina constellations, and distant celestial bodies with the naked eye. This is one reason why millions of visitors flock to Perth to explore the region's astronomical tapestry.

Besides its enchanting night sky, Perth offers a variety of nature and cultural experiences. With over 19 white-sand beaches along 76 miles of Indian Ocean coastline, Perth attracts those who love sun and sea.

One of the most famous beaches is Cottesloe Beach, offering swimming, surfing, and sunset viewing. For a more vibrant atmosphere, Scarborough Beach is an exciting destination with bars, beachfront restaurants, and watersports. Pinky Beach on Rottnest Island is a tropical paradise with turquoise waters and soft sands, perfect for those who appreciate untouched beauty.

Whale watching and swimming with dolphins are must-do experiences for nature and marine life enthusiasts. From September to December, Perth's coastline becomes a stopover for humpback whales migrating from Antarctica to warmer waters. Boat tours departing from Fremantle, Hillarys Boat Harbour, or Augusta take visitors out to sea for close-up views of these magnificent creatures. Rockingham Bay, a 45-minute drive south of central Perth, immerses visitors in the habitat of wild dolphins and other marine life.

John Forrest National Park, about 15 miles from central Perth, offers hiking amidst vast eucalyptus forests and majestic waterfalls. Caversham Wildlife Park in the Swan Valley allows visitors to interact with native Australian animals like kangaroos and koalas. Kings Park, in the heart of Perth, provides panoramic city views and a refreshing green space for relaxation.

Perth is not only renowned for its natural beauty but is also a vibrant arts and cultural hub of Western Australia. The State Theatre Centre of Western Australia is the place to enjoy world-class plays, musicals, and concerts. The city also hosts major events like the annual Perth Festival during summer, attracting international artists and creating a lively atmosphere.

A mere 25-minute drive from Perth, the Swan Valley is Western Australia's oldest wine region. With over 40 wineries, visitors can take tours to explore the winemaking process and sample renowned wines. For a relaxing day, visitors can cycle through lush vineyards or enjoy an outdoor lunch at local restaurants.

Traveling to Perth is now more convenient with Vietjet's direct flights. It takes only about 6 hours to reach the "city of lights" with three return flights per week between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth. Vietjet is also running a daily promotion, "It's 12 o'clock, Vietjet time!", from 12 pm to 2 pm, offering a chance to "hunt for 0 dong tickets" (excluding taxes and fees).
