Nam Nghiep village is approximately 10 km from Ngoc Chien commune center, situated at an average altitude of 2,200 m above sea level. Annually, from late february to late march, hawthorn flowers begin to bloom. The flowers in Nam Nghiep are more beautiful than in some other areas due to their simultaneous bloom, with many trees appearing as if covered in cotton. |
Nam Nghiep village, Ngoc Chien commune, has become a renowned destination in early spring, thanks to the blooming hawthorn flowers (tao meo flowers) that cover the hillsides in white.
According to the Son La provincial information portal, Ngoc Chien commune cultivates over 2,500 hectares of hawthorn trees. Nam Nghiep village boasts the largest cultivation area, featuring many trees that are hundreds of years old.

Most Hmong homes in Nam Nghiep retain their rustic charm, featuring a fireplace, corn drying racks, and traditional altars. Visitors can immerse themselves in local life, converse with residents, participate in daily activities, and ask to take photos in the yards, alongside the ancient hawthorn trees. |
Hawthorn is considered a tree for poverty alleviation, deeply connected to the lives of the Hmong people for a long time. Each blossoming season attracts tourists, creating additional jobs and income for locals.
The flowers are creamy white, blooming in clusters of ba-5 blossoms, similar to plum or pear flowers, but with yellow stamens and a longer lifespan.

Hieu noted that the children in the village are natural and friendly, readily interacting with tourists for photos, without following them to ask for money or food as in many other places. |

Visitors to Nam Nghiep during this period should closely monitor the weather forecast, as heavy rain can cause the flowers to fall quickly. Additionally, muddy roads make travel difficult; visitors must use four-wheel-drive vehicles or hire local residents for transportation, at a cost starting from 300,000 dong per mot person. |

Ngoc Chien offers basic tourism services for overnight guests, such as homestays provided by the Hmong people and dining services offered by ethnic communities. Room rates start from approximately 300,000 dong per mot night. Some recommended homestays include: Ngoc Chien Pearl, Kim Lai, Duc Dien, Van Thuong. The area also features hot springs located about 80 km from the old Son La city center. |

Ngoc Chien commune is mot of the destinations sought by many tourists, especially in spring, due to its beautiful blooming flowers such as peach, plum, and hawthorn. It is a pristine ecological tourism spot, ideal for cloud hunting, trekking, photography, and experiencing unique Hmong indigenous culture.
The destination is 300 km from Hanoi. Tourists can travel via the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway (CT05) and then National Route 32. The journey takes approximately 7 hours.
