While studying in the West in the early 20th century, Kewpie founder Toichiro Nakashima was impressed by the height and health of Americans. Their meals often included salads with mayonnaise. This inspired him to create a nutritious condiment to improve the physique of the Japanese people.
In 1925, Kewpie mayonnaise was born with a special recipe: using egg yolks to create a rich, smooth umami flavor. The product helped supplement nutrition for Japanese families.
For over a century, Kewpie has expanded to many countries such as China, the US, European countries, and Southeast Asia. Kewpie mayonnaise is now present in numerous countries, accompanying millions of meals worldwide.
Kewpie entered the Vietnamese market in 2008 with a factory in Binh Duong and was quickly embraced by consumers. In Vietnam, Kewpie Japanese Style Mayonnaise retains the original Japanese recipe.

That recipe is what sets the product apart. Kewpie Japanese Style Mayonnaise uses only egg yolks (3.7 yolks in 500g of mayonnaise), instead of whole eggs like other common mayonnaises. The mayonnaise also incorporates a specially formulated vinegar from rice, apples, and malt syrup, creating a mild, tart flavor. The product uses no artificial colors, sweeteners, or flavors, aligning with modern consumer preferences.

In Vietnam, Kewpie not only brings the spirit of Japanese cuisine but also continuously innovates to suit Vietnamese tastes and ingredients. From Saigon broken rice salad and Thap Muoi lotus salad to spring rolls and egg sandwiches, Kewpie enhances familiar dishes.
With its characteristic rich flavor from egg yolks, Kewpie mayonnaise has become a versatile ingredient for home cooks, from traditional dishes to modern creations.
