Phu Quoc night market to close after Lunar New Year

The popular night market in Duong Dong ward, a well-known spot for tourists to enjoy and shop, will cease operations after the Lunar New Year holiday.

On the morning of 9/1, a representative from the Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone People's Committee confirmed that traders at Bach Dang Night Market (Duong Dong Night Market) are permitted to operate until 28/2, which is the 12th day of the first lunar month.

The agency's representative stated that many traders had prepared goods to serve visitors during the Lunar New Year. To avoid impacting their livelihoods, the committee will facilitate continued sales at the night market until after the holiday.

"We always support our community to create the best possible livelihoods," the Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone People's Committee representative shared.

Bach Dang Night Market, which incorporates a pedestrian street, has been managed and organized by Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company since 2015, under a contract with the Phu Quoc District Economic Division (now the Economic, Infrastructure, and Urban Planning Division of the Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone).

This contract concluded on 31/12/2025. A representative from Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company stated their agreement with the local authority's decision.

The night market's closure aims to strengthen urban order management. A representative from the Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone People's Committee explained that this decision is to restore clear space for traffic.

During the extended operating period, the Economic, Infrastructure, and Urban Planning Division will coordinate with Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company, night market traders, and relevant units to arrange fire prevention and fighting measures, ensure food safety and hygiene, maintain security, collect and process waste, and protect the environment in accordance with regulations.

Phu Quoc Night Market, located in the old center of Duong Dong, is known as a nighttime entertainment and dining destination for tourists, featuring over 100 stalls. While the northern and southern ends of the island boast modern entertainment areas, Duong Dong Night Market is considered a favorite spot for visitors to explore local life.

Duong Dong Night Market is rated 3,5/5 points by visitors on Tripadvisor, a leading global travel website. Most reviews indicate few instances of price gouging; however, the overall experience is rated as average, only worth about 45 minutes.

Currently, besides this night market, Phu Quoc has several other night markets, including Grand World Night Market in the North Island, Sonasea Bai Truong, and Vuifest Night Market in Sunset Town.
