Phu Quoc police recover Rolex watch for Chinese tourist

Phu Quoc international airport border police assisted in recovering a Rolex watch, valued at approximately 230 million VND, for a Chinese tourist, hours after the loss was reported.

Phu Quoc international airport border police announced on 5/8 that on the evening of 3/8, they received a report from Ms. Jiming Shi, a Chinese tourist. She stated that her boyfriend's watch went missing when two passengers' suitcases collided on the security screening conveyor belt. The police immediately reviewed security cameras, verified travel routes, and invited nearby queuing passengers to cooperate with the investigation.

By 8:30 PM, when the group of Chinese tourists had to board their flight back to Xi'an Xianyang airport, police continued to search for clues. Approximately three hours later, they identified the person who found the property.

China Eastern Airlines then coordinated with Chinese police to connect with this individual. When the plane landed at 2:34 AM on 4/8 (Beijing time) at Xi'an Xianyang airport, the person who found the property voluntarily returned the watch.

Ms. Jiming Shi subsequently sent a thank you letter to Phu Quoc international airport border police. "This is not simply about recovering valuable property; you have given us deep faith in responsibility, honesty, and the meaning of international cooperation", Ms. Shi wrote.

According to data from the An Giang provincial Department of Tourism, in the first seven months of 2026, Phu Quoc welcomed nearly 6,8 million visitors, an increase of over 30% compared to the same period last year. Of these, international arrivals reached 1,5 million, up 53%. Total tourism revenue is estimated at over 36,000 billion VND.

This tourism growth helped Phu Quoc international airport set an operating record in the first seven months of the year, handling nearly 4,5 million passengers, an increase of nearly 38% compared to the same period. The airport also managed nearly 28,000 takeoffs and landings, up 44% year-on-year.
