Pigsty-view rooms attract visitors in China

A farm in Zhejiang offers accommodations directly overlooking pigsties for 1,330 USD per night, including unlimited farm visits and a 50 kg black pig for guests to take home.

A unique accommodation at the Two-Headed Black Panda Pig International Farm in Jinhua city, Zhejiang province, is drawing significant attention on Chinese social media.

The room is separated from the pigsty by glass, allowing guests to observe hundreds of pigs eating, moving, and sleeping. The farm features two rooms: one family room and one designed for two people. The pigsty is equipped with a closed ventilation system, automatic waste removal, and soundproofing to minimize odors and noise. Inside the room, guests find beds, blankets, and pig-shaped pillows.

Gao Liqing, the farm's chief executive officer, detailed the pricing. A package costing 8,888 yuan (1,330 USD) includes a one-night stay, unlimited annual farm admission, and a two-headed black pig valued at 6,888 yuan (1,030 USD), weighing approximately 50 kg. Guests can choose to raise the pig themselves or request the farm to slaughter, process, and deliver it to their home.

This unique package has been fully booked since 5/2025. For those interested in the room without the farm admission and pig, the price is around 2,000 yuan (nearly 300 USD). Currently, only guests who purchased the full package are allowed to stay overnight in the pig-viewing rooms.

Other visitors can still tour the farm, the breeding center, and observe the room from outside.

The two-headed black pig, also known as the Jinhua pig, is a distinctive breed. It features a black head and tail with a white body. As one of the four famous pig breeds in China, it is highly regarded for its firm, flavorful meat, thin skin, and small bones.

According to Gao Liqing, the pig-themed accommodation is not the farm's primary source of income. The model was developed to promote agri-tourism, aiming to help visitors understand the Jinhua pig farming process and encourage the consumption of products from this breed.

The initiative has significantly boosted the local economy. The farm has welcomed over 1,2 million visitors since offering the pig-viewing room service. This influx has attracted nearly 350,000 guests to the 9 surrounding villages, creating over 500 jobs for local residents and helping them increase their income by nearly 100 million yuan (15 million USD).

The service has received mixed reactions. Some consider it a novel experience, a refreshing change after being accustomed to traditional beach and mountain destinations. Others comment that paying around 2,000 yuan just to watch pigs eat and sleep is not worth it, suggesting one could simply buy pork instead. The farm stated that the accommodation targets guests willing to spend money on unique experiences, rather than catering to the masses.
